      <image:title>About</image:title>
<image:caption>Elizabeth Yancelson DAc. I am a board-certified acupuncturist licensed by the Maine Board of Complementary Health Care Providers and the Texas Medical Board. I studied Biological Sciences at Smith College and earned my Master and Doctor of Acupuncture from AOMA Graduate School of Integrative Medicine, where I also worked as a research coordinator. As a medical student in Austin, I completed clinical rotations in several integrative settings, including Seton Community Clinics, Austin Recovery, and Austin Pain Associates. Working in private practice, I split time with patients in both Maine and Texas. I have collaborated with physical therapist colleagues to provide natural pain relief and mental health care for pregnant, postpartum, and oncology patients, treated patients at Crossroads Behavioral Health and Addiction Treatment Center, and volunteered with Portland Veterans Acupuncture Clinic to provide free care to veterans with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. I am certified by the National Acupuncture Detox Association in auricular acupuncture for trauma and addiction, and trained in de-escalation and Trauma-Informed Care by Texas DFPS. Additionally, I hold a certificate in Integrative Oncology Acupuncture from Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer in New York. In 2023, I joined the integrative care team at Soft Corner Midwifery, where I work closely with the midwives alongside a pelvic floor PT, lactation consultant, nutritionist and doula. Together, we provide holistic, inclusive reproductive health care. I am passionate about mindfulness and self-care, and have taught mindfulness skills to high-risk children and adults in various organizations, including Communities in Schools, El Buen Samaritano, Seton McCarthy Community Clinic, Portland Veterans Acupuncture Clinic, and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Austin and San Antonio.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Acupuncture is part of a medical system called Traditional Chinese Medicine, which views health and disease holistically and treats patients accordingly. Acupuncture has been practiced for millennia, and has evolved rapidly over the past century as information is exchanged across borders and languages more than ever and medical research advances rapidly. By inserting fine needles into skin and muscles at specific locations (called acupoints) acupuncturists trigger chemical and physical responses that facilitate natural healing processes. Additionally, acupuncture produces immediate chemical and sensory changes that affect the patient’s perception of the pain or disease, which can alleviate some suffering before the natural healing response is complete.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Services - Cupping</image:title>
<image:caption>Cupping is a soft tissue mobilization technique that uses a suction cup to decompress muscles and connective tissue. Strong suction can cause a micro-trauma, which increases circulation to the affected area and promotes healing. Cupping is rooted in traditional medicine and utilized by acupuncturists for the treatment of stress and pain. In recent years, cupping has gained popularity among practitioners such as physical therapists, sports trainers, massage therapists, and chiropractors. It is especially useful in managing the following conditions: Headaches Migraines Neck pain Back Pain Shoulder Pain Fibromyalgia Depression Anxiety</image:caption>

      <image:title>Services - Mindfulness Training</image:title>
<image:caption>I teach mindfulness through movement, breath work, and mindful communication. By inspiring self-awareness, I help students to develop a more conscious relationship between their bodies, emotions, and thoughts. Mindfulness-based stress reduction techniques are known to improve pain and other chronic health conditions when incorporated into an overarching treatment plan. Mindfulness is a practice that also helps healthy people navigate life’s challenges in a graceful and meaningful way. Mindfulness can prevent burnout, and support burnout recovery. We intermittently offer mindfulness training and support for different groups, such as: Individuals and couples trying to grow their families Individuals with a cancer diagnosis and their loved ones Health care providers First responders and educators stressed by the challenges posed by the COVID19 pandemic For more information, or if you represent a group who you think would benefit from mindfulness training, please get in touch.</image:caption>

      <image:title>For Physicians - Acupuncture</image:title>
<image:caption>Acupuncture can be a powerful adjuvant therapy for a wide variety of conditions. I am a general acupuncturist with additional training in the subspecialties that have the strongest evidence and most reliable treatment responses, such as pain, oncology symptom management, and fertility. Whenever possible, I work with patients’ primary care teams and specialists in order to yield optimal results. Patients are encouraged to seek evaluation by a physician before starting acupuncture treatment. To ensure additional patient safety, I am trained to spot red flags, and to refer out when patients need different or additional care.</image:caption>
